Expert’s Comment : The 8 Annas of George V, issued in 1919 and 1920, is the only coin ever struck with that specific denomination. Unlike the Half Rupee, which was produced in silver, the 8 Annas was minted in cupro-nickel, and the public did not accept it. By 1920 the colonial government had recognised its error and discontinued production, with only a handful of 1920-dated pieces struck before the end. All coins were subsequently withdrawn from circulation and melted down. Only a limited number of 8 Annas survived this recall, and examples dated 1920 are scarcer still, making them exceedingly rare to acquire.
