Rare 8 Annas George V King Emperor 1919 Calcutta Mint Cupro-Nickel Coin, British India Uniform Coinage, Collectible.
Approx Weight – 7.7 grams,
Approx Diameter – 26 mm
Expert’s Comment : The 8 Annas of George V, issued in 1919 and 1920, stands as the only coin ever struck with that specific denomination. Unlike the Half Rupee, which was produced in silver, the 8 Annas was minted in cupro-nickel, and the public did not accept it. Within two years the issue was discontinued, withdrawn from circulation and subsequently melted down by the British Colonial Government. Only a limited number of examples survived this recall, and those that remain are now keenly sought after by collectors of British India.
