Rare 1/2 Pice George VI King Emperor 1938 (Key Date) Calcutta Mint Bronze Coin, British India Uniform Coinage, About UNC.
Approx Weight – 2.42 grams,
Approx Diameter – 21 mm
Expert’s Comment : Official British India mint records indicate that the Half Pice bearing the effigy of George VI was approved in November 1938. This left only a narrow window for striking before regular production commenced in 1939, resulting in a very limited mintage for the 1938 date. Struck in bronze and issued solely from the Calcutta Mint, the 1938 Half Pice is difficult to acquire in any condition. This specimen, in XF+ to about Uncirculated grade, is very rare in such a state of preservation. Growing interest among date-wise collectors has also led to a steep appreciation in its value.
