Expert’s Comment : Ala al-Din Firuz Shah rose to the throne of the Bengal Sultanate following the assassination of his father, Sultan Nusrat Shah, and a bitter contest for succession with his uncle. His rule proved remarkably brief: after only three months, he was assassinated by that same uncle, Ghiyasuddin Mahmud Shah, who then assumed the sultanate. Such a short reign naturally resulted in a very limited issue of coinage, and well-preserved examples in high grade, such as this one, are now highly prized and keenly sought after by serious collectors.
