In the year 1940, George VI Coinage saw the introduction of Head Type II (Mature Head). Prior to that Coins of the years 1938-39 had the Head Type I (Young Head).
Interestingly some coins of 1939 were issued with the Mature Head bust and similarly some coins of 1940 were issue with the Young Head Bust.
