NOTAPHILY Rare 1 Rupee 1940 Finance Sec. C. E. Jones, George VI Portrait, D 73 Prefix, British India Bank Note, (BI-A10) UNC.
Expert’s Comment : Unlike other denominations, which were issued by the Reserve Bank of India, the One Rupee note was issued directly by the Government of India. It therefore bears the signature of the Secretary to the Department of Finance rather than that of the RBI Governor. This particular note, issued in 1940, carries the signature of C. E. Jones, who then held the office of Finance Secretary to the Government of India. This distinction sets the One Rupee note apart within the series and gives it a particular appeal for collectors of Indian paper money.
