George V coinage for British India saw a lot of experiments and changes, often times these changes were forced due to mass rejection of a particular coin. One such example is the 1911 One Rupee coins also known as the Pig Rupee. Interestingly the supposed elephant on the rob of George V’s Bust on the coin, looked a lot like a pig due to its short trunk resembling a pig’s snout and shorter feet making it look more like a pig than an Elephant.
General masses in India starting refusing to accept the coin and as a result the British Colonial Government in India had to re-tract these coins from general circulation and melt them, leading to a further reduction in the number of coins available today.
